Speech Pathology and Audiology Major

About our program

Develop the skills you need to understand and aid those with communication disorders. You’ll be directly admitted to the major, which means you’ll take speech pathology/audiology classes from your very first semester, and your curriculum and clinicals will provide you with the necessary foundation to earn admission to a graduate program in speech-language pathology or audiology.

You’ll gain hands-on experience with real clients early on, working under the guidance of expert faculty in our Speech and Hearing Clinic. You’ll not only sharpen your skills but see firsthand the positive difference you can make in people's lives. And because values and service are integrated into everything we do, you’ll develop a deep sense of purpose along with the skill and expertise you’ll gain.

Hands-on learning for career success

While you’re here at Marquette, preparing you for what’s next will be one of our top priorities. So, expect lots of learning by doing, connecting with others who share your passions, and reflecting on how you can Be The Difference.

Spaces to learn

In our gross anatomy lab, you'll see the human body up close for an entire, intensive semester. It's one of the only gross anatomy courses for undergrads in the country.

Clinicals and professional experience

Conduct your clinicals right on campus in the Marquette University Speech and Hearing Clinic. Supervised by faculty who are certified and licensed speech-language pathologists and audiologists, you'll work with children and adults who have speech, language or hearing disorders — something many programs don’t offer to their undergraduates.

Undergraduate research

Take advantage of the opportunity to work with internationally respected researchers and their teams.

Here are some of the areas Marquette speech pathology and audiology faculty and students are investigating right now:

  • Advancing rehabilitation with neuroscience
  • Neurodevelopmental feeding and swallowing
  • Speech and swallowing
  • Child language and literacy
  • Communication, movement and learning

Leadership learning

Become a people-centered leader guided by our Jesuit tradition. Join our E-Lead program sophomore year and you’ll complete a combination of leadership courses and experiences that prepare you to be the drivers of innovation for the common good. You’ll develop the skill set to generate innovative solutions and the mindset to reflect on the impact your work has on the world. Bonus: You’ll graduate with a concentration in leadership, too.
