Educational Studies Major

About our program

Want to shape the future of education? As an educational studies major, you’ll prepare for exactly that. Explore how learning happens across various environments — not just in traditional classrooms. This major is perfect if you're curious about diving into community engagement, education policy or school counseling.

You'll learn from passionate instructors who integrate real-world problems into lessons, providing you with a unique perspective on challenges and solutions in today's educational landscape. Engage directly with your community through service-learning projects, internships at local schools and research opportunities that allow you to apply classroom theories to tangible scenarios.

Because everything you’ll do and learn will be grounded in values and emphasize care for the whole person, you’ll graduate ready to improve education locally and globally and make significant, positive societal change.

Here, you'll join a close-knit, student-focused community of peers and teacher-scholars devoted to caring for others and the world. Hands-on learning for career success

While you’re here at Marquette, preparing you for what’s next will be one of our top priorities. So, expect lots of learning by doing, connecting with others who share your passions, and reflecting on how you can Be The Difference.

Spaces to learn

Improve your teaching skills while you tutor Milwaukee-area schoolchildren at the Hartman Literacy and Learning Center. It’s a teaching, research and service site housed within the College of Education that actively works to improve the quality of literacy instruction provided by teachers and the literacy acquisition of children who struggle with learning to read.

Field experience

From your first semester, you’ll participate in service learning, extensive fieldwork and student teaching, or community-engaged internships. Through these experiences, you’ll not only build the skills to expertly manage a classroom and engage learners, you’ll also build mutually beneficial relationships with schools, families and community organizations in the greater Milwaukee area.

Undergraduate research

If you're interested in the research behind what makes a successful teacher, you'll be able to see it firsthand by working with one of our research centers and clinics, including:

  • The Behavior Clinic
  • Culture and Well-Being Lab
  • Latina/o Well-Being Research Initiative
  • Hartman Literacy and Learning Center
