Carillon will ring for 15 minutes signifying official resignation

Marquette University Campus Ministry will host a Mass of Thanksgiving for Pope Benedict XVI, Thursday Feb. 28, at noon in the St. Joan of Arc Chapel on Marquette’s campus. Rev. Jeffrey LaBelle, S.J., rector of the Jesuit community, will celebrate the Mass, which will give thanks for Benedict’s ministry and offer prayers for his health moving forward.

Benedict accepted his position as pope eight years ago on April 19, 2005, and is resigning due to his advancing age and declining health. Benedict, 85, is the first pope to resign in 600 years.

Carillon ringing at 1 p.m. to mark resignation

Marquette’s carillon will ring for 15 minutes beginning at 1 p.m. to mark Pope Benedict XVI’s official resignation time of 8 p.m. local time in Vatican City.
