Study Abroad Applications Due

Marquette celebrates International Day and the 50th Anniversary of Marquette en Madrid on Feb. 27

The Office of International Education will celebrate International Day on Feb. 27 from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. in the 2nd floor lobby of the AMU. At noon, we will host faculty and study abroad alumni in a special celebration of the 50th anniversary of the Marquette en Madrid program.

Throughout the day, students and student organizations will be showcasing their culture through decorated booths with flags, cuisine, music, dance, information about their home countries and much more.

Marquette is home to students from 68 countries, who bring unique international perspectives to the culture of our university. International Day provides an opportunity to showcase the diverse student body of Marquette. This free event is open to all Marquette students, faculty and staff.

Registration deadline for International Day

Monday, Feb. 16

 

Will your country be represented? Marquette University’s 31st Annual International Day will be held from 10 am until 2 pm on Friday, February 27. International Day is held in the AMU every spring to celebrate the diversity in the Marquette community which includes over 700 students from 68 countries and a wide variety of cultural groups! All students are encouraged to participate. It is easy to host a table and share your culture. If interested, submit the application form (sent to all students in a separate message last week) or visit OIE for an application. We look forward to your participation!

Mardi Gras (Carnivale)

Tuesday, Feb. 17

6 – 8 pm

OIE Program Center, Holthusen Hall, 4th Floor

 

Enjoy traditional foods associated with Mardi Gras, including pancakes and paczkis (donuts) while learning about the many cultures that celebrate this “fat Tuesday” event. Come in costume (if you dare!) or select a mask to wear from those at OIE. We will also have beads to wear. All Marquette students, friends and family members are welcome!

Milwaukee Bucks open scrimmage at Marquette

Thursday, Feb. 19

11:30 am – 1:45 pm

Al McGuire Center

The Milwaukee Bucks are hosting an open event for the Marquette Community. The event will include a practice session with some light scrimmaging, a half-court shot competition, and more. Students on a university meal plan will be able to swipe for a meal exchange. All members of the Marquette community (including students, friends and family members) are welcome to attend. MU ID will be needed to enter, but guest can enter with their MU host. This event is being sponsored by the Office of Student Development.

When Violence is Done in the Name of Religion: How do we Respond?

Join the Faber Center for a panel discussion with leaders from the Muslim community of Milwaukee along with MU faculty and students to discuss this important topic as we reflect on current events as a community in search of understanding. Sponsored by The Faber Center, Office of Mission and Ministry, Campus Ministry and the Turkish-American Society of Wisconsin. Reception to follow.
