Welcome from the Dean
There has never been a more crucial time for individuals to consider nursing as a career or for nurses to advance their educational preparation. A nursing shortage that is predicted to be long lasting, a well documented nursing faculty shortage, growing complexity in healthcare, technological advances that are changing the face of healthcare across the continuum, and an aging population, all contribute to the need for more nursing professionals. Marquette faculty have embraced the challenge to move nursing education to the highest level. Marquette College of Nursing has been recognized for its innovative approach to curriculum development. The varied curriculums prepare students to enter the complex healthcare environment. Marquette has set the standard for curriculum innovation at the baccalaureate, master’s and doctoral levels. A complex profession, Marquette nursing students receive an education that is solidly based on the physical/biological science, social/psychological science and humanities (including theology and philosophy). Because of the strength of their education, students and alumni all understand what it is to be a Marquette nurse. Marquette faculty are expert teachers, recognized clinicians, and accomplished researchers. They are at the forefront of developing evidence on which nurses base their practice. All of these individuals come together in the classroom to teach, mentor and demonstrate the highest level of professional nursing practice for our students. Marquette offers many innovative programs that address the challenges seen in healthcare today. : Baccalaureate programs, Masters of Science in Nursing, Post Master’s Certificates,Doctorate of Nursing Practice, and Doctor of Philosophy. All of our programs will uniquely qualify the Marquette graduate to assume leadership roles in the profession. Our programs are accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE), as well as specialty accreditation from the American College of Nurse-Midwifery for the Nurse-Midwifery program. Marquette meets the quality standards for advanced practice nurses to be certified as Nurse Practitioners or Clinical Nurse Specialists. I have recently come to Marquette to lead this highly acclaimed college and work with a remarkable group of faculty and students. I chose to come to Marquette because of its strong commitment to Jesuit tradition, which include excellence in nursing education. Faculty, students and alumni have all welcomed me with an extraordinary passion for their profession and the college. The Marquette faculty welcome your questions and encourage you to reach your professional goals with us. The Marquette experience will change your life!
