New Student Convocation is the formal welcome to the academic rigor, responsibility and opportunity that awaits your Marquette student. Family members are encouraged to take part in this important tradition.

The ceremony includes remarks by Dr. Michael R. Lovell, Marquette University President, as well as an address by Dr. Abiola Keller, director of clinical research and clinical assistant professor of Physician Assistant Studies in the College of Health Sciences.

At New Student Convocation, families and students are seated separately; students are seated in the lower level seating, much like a graduation ceremony, and family members are seated in upper level seating. This event is followed by separate events for students and family members. For that reason, family members who plan to leave campus after New Student Convocation are encouraged to say "good-bye" to their student prior to the ceremony.

Seating for families is offered on a first-come, first-served basis. While the ceremony begins at 7 p.m., doors to the Al McGuire Center open promptly at 6:30 p.m., and family members are encouraged to arrive early. Suggested dress is business casual, but all are welcome. If you plan to assist your student in moving belongings into the residence halls earlier that day, you may wish to bring a change of clothes (business casual) with you to campus.

Registration is not required for New Student Convocation, or any other events for family members offered during Family Orientation. For a complete schedule of Family Orientation events, please visit the Orientation website.
