Mission Week 2024: Feb 4-9

When St. Ignatius wrote letters of instruction, he often asked those that he wrote to, to be considerate and kind. He and the first companions created the Society of Jesus to take God’s ministry out into the world. By empowering others to “go, set the world on fire,” he ignited a movement that, over 500 years later, has global reach and impact.

During this week, consider taking action by attending one of the many Mission Week offerings. Whether it be opportunities to listen to inspirational speakers, participate in service, pray, worship, or reflect and take time for silence each day.

We will welcome dean of the College of Nursing, Dr. Jill Guttormson, to facilitate the conversation with Jane.

In addition, we will award the first Marquette Ignatian Educator of Distinction to College of Nursing Clinical Instructor, Marija Bjegovich-Weidman, DNP ’23, MSN ’95, RN, CCAP.  Dr. Rita Dollard O’Malley, provincial assistant for Ignatian spirituality will present the award to Marija on behalf of the Midwest Province office.

  • Gratitude improves the lives of students and adults. Recent educational research combined with the current thinking of CTL leaders suggest that a fittingly complex concept of gratitude can help students find hope in troubled times. Indeed, gratitude may be considered an act of service on campus, especially when working with today’s students. Using elements of Ignatian reflection, this roundtable session for all instructors across campus will articulate a concept of gratitude informed by current research and anecdotal experience from attendees, provide concrete ways to incorporate gratitude into participants’ pedagogical practices, and suggest ways that teaching through gratitude helps instill hope in students.
