  • American Geographical Society Library
    Housed in the Golda Meir Library of University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, this is one of the largest map and geography collections in North America.  The AGS has an extensive worldwide collection of maps, atlases, books, journals, pamphlets, photographs, slides, air photos, and digital spatial data.  Additionally, offered via the AGS web site is their Digital Map Collection - digital collection of over 200 of their most frequently requested maps.

    Contains full color physical and political maps as well as key facts and statistics on countries of the world.

  • David Rumsey Collection
    The David Rumsey Collection focuses on 18th and 19th century North and South American cartographic materials. The collection includes atlases, globes, school geographies, maritime charts, and a variety of separate maps including pocket, wall, children’s and manuscript maps. The digital images and associated descriptive data are © Cartography Associates.

  • Historical Atlas of the Twentieth Century
    This site was compiled and is maintained by librarian, Matthew White. White provides a multitude of maps dealing with general trends (living conditions, war, population, government, etc.) as well as maps of specific regions. Contains links to a mulitude of other web sites containing historical maps.
  • Historical Maps of the United States
    Provides U.S.maps dating back to the 16th century.
  • HRW World Atlas
    Provides color, detailed maps of continents, countries and states.
  • Map Machine
    From National Geographic, provides maps, profiles, etc. of U.S. states as well as countries of the world.
  • Mapquest
    Interactive street atlas which allows you to look up an address, a business, or a city and provides you with a map. Is international in scope.

    This site updates the 1970 print map, National Atlas of the United States produced by the U.S. Government.  Delivers easy to use, map-like views of America's natural and sociocultural landscapes.  Maps are interactive and some are multimedia.  Although this site cannot provide detailed map information, it does direct users to other sources for this information.

  • Open Directory Project Listing of Maps
    Open Directory Project (ODP) is an alternative site to Yahoo and like Yahoo, contains listings of websites arranged by topics.  Use this site to find a variety of maps of various types.

    RandMcNally offers free Driving Directions (similar to Mapquest , as well as maps and mileage charts.

    Provides interactive, topographical maps of the entire United States.

    Type in a place name or zip code and then view a detailed map or census data.

    The Air Travel Alternatives and Comparison Shopping Center. A mega-site of air travel information which, among other things, allows you to locate airline schedules and shop for the best ticket prices.

    Official Amtrack site. Allows you to check train schedules all through United States and Canada. Free registration allows you to purchase train tickets online.

    This site is produced by the U.S. Dept. of Transportation. Contains a wealth of information regarding air travel tips and information. Also, contains monthly Air Travel Consumer Report, a government publication which is designed to assist consumers with information on the quality of services provided by the airlines.
