You will be to submitting an electronic
copy of your assignments into a plagiarism detection website called Turnitin.com. Turnitin
compares your submission with the content of over 2 billion other papers, books, journal articles and
websites. Turnitin creates a report that highlights
similarities and allows your instructor to examine the original source. Your assignments become
a permanent part of the Turnitin database so that others
cant recycle them. This is being done to discourage those few students who might be
tempted to borrow inappropriately from other writers past or present. Turnitin is being used at many universities across the country.
Please remember, in order to receive a grade, you will also need to hand in a
duplicate paper copy of your assignment.
BEFORE WRITING YOUR PAPERS
BEFORE GETTING STARTED
- Your instructor will give you a Class ID
and Enrollment Password.
Make a note of them. Warning: always use the numbers your instructor
gives you. Numbers from a fellow classmate in a different section will be incorrect
and cause your assignments to be submitted to the wrong class.
NEW USER REGISTRATION/ENROLLMENT WIZARD
Every Turnitin user needs a User Profile,
which consists of an email address, a password and contact information. Once your profile
has been entered you can join a specific class/classes.
- At www.turnitin.com select New User
- Enter the e-mail address you use most often. This will be your Turnitin User Name
- Enter a password of your choosing and verify. The password is 6-12 characters
long, case sensitive and must contain one letter and one
number
- Enter your personal information
- Your User Type is student.
Select it from the pull-down menu.
- You will be asked to read the user agreement.
- If you are ready to join a class and know its Class
ID and Class Password you
can continue with the Class Enrollment Wizard
or, at a later date, use the Logging In and Enrollment Procedures
below.
LOGGING IN
- At Turnitins Homepage enter
your Email Address and User Password in the boxes in the upper right hand
corner. Click LOGIN. You will be at your Student Homepage. If you are a new user,
your homepage will be empty.
ENROLLING IN A CLASS
- Select Enroll In A Class on your student
homepage
- Enter the Class Id and Enrollment Password that your instructor has
provided.
- Click Submit to Enroll.
