September 2013 -- Raynor Memorial Libraries now offers a virtual tour of the Libraries that is narrated in Mandarin and formatted for viewing on personal computers as well as mobile devices. Raynor Memorial Libraries Virtual Tour Narrated
		in Mandarin

The virtual videos were created to help make the Libraries more accessible to the increasing number of Chinese students attending Marquette University. According to statistics provided by the Office of International Education, Marquette currently enrolls about 350 undergraduate and granduate students from the People’s Republic of China. Additional Mandarin speaking Marquette students holding citizenship in other countries and those from the ELS Language Center also have access to the Libraries, but are not accounted for in the OIE's statistics.

It is a strategic initiative of the Libraries to promote diversity at Marquette. Developing services like the virtual tour is one way that the Libraries enhance diversity and improve the experience of our users. The videos will help users identify the many services, spaces, and collections made available to them by the Libraries in support of academic pursuits.

The project was made possible through a collaboration with Jing Zhai in the department of Foreign Languages and Literatures at Marquette. Zhai translated the English script created by Library staff into Mandarin and performed a voice-over for the videos. She is the coordinator of the Chinese program and teaches Chinese language and civilization courses as well as Chinese literature translation.

View both the English and Mandarin version of the tour from the Libraries' homepage.
