January 2009—The Libraries have added the following new online subscriptions and digital texts since August 2008.  Most are new acquisitions, while several represent a change of format or significant enhancement to ongoing subscriptions.  All are available to Marquette users from any campus network location, as well as from off-campus.  If you have questions, please drop by the Information Desk or use other AskUs! services.

New Databases

Art Museum Image Gallery is a digital resource of over 155,000 art images and related multimedia from distinguished museums around the world.  The gallery can be searched alone or simultaneously with Art Abstracts, Art Index Retrospective and Biography Reference Bank.

ARTFL Project: American and French Research on the Treasury of the French Language provides access to full-text French literature projects and reference works.  Includes Frantext, the French Women Writers Project, Provençal Poetry, Dictionnaires d'autrefois, Diderot and d'Alembert's Encyclopedie, multiple editions of the Dictionnaire de l'Académie Française, etc.

Cabell's Directory of Publishing Opportunities provides current information on the addresses, phone, e-mail and websites for a large number of journals, as well as information on publication guidelines and review information, in the areas of Accounting, Economics and Finance, Management, Marketing, Education, Psychology and Psychiatry.  Note, subject areas may only be searched individually.

CQ MoneyLine tracks the flow of money in politics.  Includes political parties, candidates, action committees, lobbyists and more.

Evidence-Based Resources from the Joanna Briggs Institute includes full-text Systematic Reviews, Evidence Summaries, and Best Practice Information Sheets.

International Bibliography of Theatre and Dance with Full Text is the major index for international theatre literature published from 1982 to the present.  IBTD indexes over 60,000 journal articles, books, dissertations, and ephemeral publications on all aspects of theatre and performance in 126 countries.

Mergent Horizon provides comprehensive coverage for companies actively traded on the NYSE, AMEX and NASDAQ with enhanced product-level detail for 3,700 companies in the healthcare, technology, media and finance sectors.

Mergent Online includes: U.S. and international company data and archives data, U.S. and international annual reports, institutional holdings data, insider trading data, FactSheets, FactSheets Express, expanded long-term debt, Experian National Business Database, equity and corporate bond portraits.

Scitopia is a search portal created to provide a gateway to the research publications of 21 leading science and technology societies.  More than three and a half million documents, including peer-reviewed journal content and technical conference papers, spanning 350 years of science and technology can be searched through the site.

Stat!Ref - Medical provides online access to 12 full text books: AAFP Conditions A to Z; Current Critical Care Diagnosis & Treatment; Current Diagnosis & Treatment...(Emergency Medicine, Cardiology, Gastroenterology, Infectious Diseases, Orthopedics, Otolaryngology-Head & Neck Surgery, Pediatrics, Obstetrics & Gynecology); Current Medical Diagnosis & Treatment; and Current Surgical Diagnosis & Treatment.

The Times Digital Archive 1785-1985 holds the complete digital edition of The Times (London) from 1785 to 1985.  Includes full facsimile images of either a specific article or a complete page.  The entire newspaper is captured, with all articles, advertisements and illustrations/photos divided into categories to facilitate searching.

Vanderbilt Television News Archive Online index and collection of television news, indexing more than 30,000 individual network evening news broadcasts from the major U.S. national broadcast networks: ABC, CBS, NBC, CNN and Fox News and more than 9,000 hours of special news-related programming including ABC's Nightline since 1989. Streaming video of NBC newscasts 1968 to present and CNN news 1995 to present; others available for loan through Interlibrary Loan.

Notable Enhancements

19th Century Masterfile has been updated to include a completely redesigned search interface, new functionality and navigation, and the addition of major historical resources.  The new interface offers more intuitive and easier navigation to all the important resources available through NCM.  In addition, new options for exporting and e-mailing citations are now available as well, and clearer identification of e-resources.

CINAHL has a new provider and interface.  The EBSCO company has purchased exclusive rights to CINAHL and is the only provider of the database as of January 1, 2009.  The EBSCO version has a different search interface, but provides access to the same content as the OVID version and includes some additional full-text journals.

Eighteenth Century Collections Online II has been added as a supplement to Eighteenth Century Collections Online (ECCO) including 45,000 new titles, access to titles previously too fragile to scan, plus rare and difficult-to-find texts.

Francis is now provided by OvidSP and has a new search interface.

Library of Latin Texts Series B added and searchable via Brepols' Cross Database Searchtool.

Oxford Reference Online Premium has been updated to include over 6,000 new entries, four new titles and eleven new editions.  The database replaces opera content to include A Dictionary of Opera Characters (2008) (a new edition of Who's Who in Opera), The Grove Book of Operas (2006), and The New Grove Book of Opera Singers (2008).  Visit their What’s New page to see a comprehensive list.

ProQuest Nursing and Allied Health Source has been added to Health Sciences in ProQuest.

Scientific American now includes links to full digitized images (1845-1908.

Testing & Education Reference Center has a new user interface, offering improved navigational efficiency; the ability to perform a keyword search across all content; and a menu layout that encourages exploration and increased usage.
