November 2008--Janice Welburn, Dean of Libraries, cordially invites all full and part-time faculty to a brief and informative presentation about this vital part of the Libraries’ resources.  Faculty are urged to share this invitation with graduate students.

Bernard Reilly, president of the Center for Research Libraries

Nov. 21 (Friday) 11:15 a.m.,
Raynor Conference Center (R060B/C)

Mr. Reilly will talk about how Marquette’s research and teaching can be advanced by CRL's global resources.  Questions about this event should be addressed to Jay Kirk, Coordinator of Collection Development at 288-5213.

Since 1963 Marquette’s membership in the Center for Research Libraries (CRL) has provided faculty and graduate students with thousands of unique or rare items.  This visit will inform library users of CRL’s newest holdings and help Marquette researchers take full advantage of CRL resources.  All CRL holdings are available to Marquette students and faculty via electronic delivery or extended loan through interlibrary loan.

Among CRL’s diverse holdings (over four million volumes):

  • Journals: more than 7,000 rare titles, particularly foreign language science and technology;

  • Major microform sets in literature, art, theater, music, early printed books;

  • Government publications, such as 100,000-plus-page archive of Cambodia's Khmer Rouge security force;

  • Foreign doctoral dissertations (more than 800,000 from 100 European universities);

  • Extensive newspaper runs (more than 6,000 foreign newspapers titles and 500 U.S. ethnic newspapers titles, including early African-American newspapers);

  • Emphasis is on materials produced outside the United States, and the Center has special strength in publications and archives from many developing nations.
