Libraries Launch Book Drive for Literacy |
|
April 2007--Staff of Raynor Memorial Libraries announce a spring book drive to benefit Literacy Services of Wisconsin (LSW). The drive is being launched April 17 to coincide with National Library Week and will run through May 18. All members of the campus community are invited to contribute their new or gently used books. A specially-marked box is located near the Raynor Library Information Desk. As a general guideline, please no textbooks, technical manuals, damaged books, condensed books, or other books with limited appeal. Paperbacks and children's books are gladly accepted. All donated books will be delivered to Literacy Services of Wisconsin, a privately-funded nonprofit organization which provides literacy education to more than 12,000 adults each year. The Libraries' book drive is a repeat of the very successful drive last spring, which netted a truck load of 40 boxes--over 1,600 books. LSW Outreach Coordinator Nick Lyons said [the donated books] "will go a long way to helping us support our literacy initiatives." Library staff will attempt to accommodate prospective donors who can't drop their books in Raynor Library; to explore arranging a pick up, please call (288-7599) or e-mail Molly Larkin. Thanks in advance for your generous gift to literacy. |
