Johnston Hall:
100 Years in the Making

ENTER
THE EXHIBIT

On Christmas Day, 1906, Robert A. Johnston, president of the Johnston Baking Company, donated $110,000 to Marquette College, to complete construction of a new liberal arts building.  The new facility allowed Marquette College to move from its original location on State Street to a parcel adjacent to Gesu Church.

Over the years, Johnston Hall has been home to numerous academic programs, including Law, Engineering, Journalism, Communication, Speech, and Business Administration.  The south wing of Johnston Hall also served as the  Jesuit residence for many decades.

Today Johnston Hall is home to the
J. William and Mary Diederich College of  Communication, in addition to the Instructional Media Center and student media programs.  A recent $28 million gift from J. William and Mary Diederich is being used to transform the College of Communication and to renovate Johnston Hall.
