Historical Note

American Indian Catholic clergy and religious from throughout the United States and Canada formed the Association of Native Religious and Clergy in 1971, which since 1979, has held an annual retreat just prior to the national annual meeting of the Tekakwitha Conference in the vicinity of that meeting. Since then, many ANRC members have been actively engaged as leaders of the Conference, which was reorganized and represents Native Catholics from the United States and Canada.

Scope and Content

Series 1, Statement: A 1992 statement by ANRC members who express their sentiments on the saintliness of Blessed Kateri Tekakwitha and frustrations with the pace of the Vatican's deliberations.

Series 2, Photography: Color and black and white copy prints and negatives of native clergy and religious at annual retreats. Also included are images from the 1986 installation of Bishop Donald E. Pellotte, S.S.S., and a few images, primarily ANRC members, at the Tekakwitha Conference.

Series 3, Personal Papers: Rev. Georges P. Mathieu personal papers, comprised of an interview transcript plus related clippings and printed materials.
