Marquette University is an academic leader among Catholic Jesuit universities in the United States with an enduring mission centered on the four pillars of excellence, faith, leadership and service. The university is known for its commitment to liberal education through a core of common studies that fosters learning grounded in critical thought and ethics and well-respected undergraduate and graduate colleges, schools and programs in communications, law, dentistry, nursing, engineering and the health sciences.
To fulfill its mission and leadership role in the Marquette University community, the Libraries prioritizes the delivery and creation of content and services "that focus on the needs of today and the possibilities of tomorrow." Given the Libraries' commitment to learning, scholarship, and intellectual discovery as essential to Catholic Jesuit higher learning, its strategic plan is an articulation of three interconnected ideas: Information, Integration, and Innovation.
Over the past five years, Raynor Memorial Libraries has significantly increased its e-resource acquisitions while simultaneously upgrading and enhancing library information technologies, such as through the creation of a "digital studio" for campus use. The Libraries' enhanced focus on digital curation has led to significant advances, including the creation of an institutional repository for faculty and student research and the digitization of unique collections. The Libraries has extended its services to accommodate the proliferation of mobile devices and applications, thereby expanding its ability to deliver information both within and beyond the walls of the library. The Libraries has also recast its image, evolving from a "study hall with books" to a dynamic learning environment that continues to offer space for individualized research. Given these and other changes in the landscape for providing the Marquette community with critical services and resources, the Libraries has engaged in meaningful restructuring to strengthen organizational capacity.
The strength of Raynor Memorial Libraries lies in its unwavering commitment to advancing "intellectual inquiry and discovery by connecting the Marquette community with information and knowledge." To accomplish this, Information, Integration, Innovation: the Strategic Plan for Marquette University Raynor Memorial Libraries is built on the foundation of six core values shared by library staff: Access, Excellence, Diversity, Collaboration, Integrity and Civility. Strategic priorities are drawn from a focus on collections, teaching and learning, engagement, and organizational development and effectiveness.
