Research and Instructional Services Librarian

Marquette University Raynor Memorial Libraries seeks to recruit applicants for an innovative and collaborative Research and Instructional Services Librarian. The successful candidate will provide user-centered services in support of teaching, research, and scholarship for the College of Nursing, Physician Assistant Studies, and Biomedical Sciences. This position reports to the Head of Research and Instructional Services.


Serve as subject liaison librarian to the College of Nursing, Physician Assistant Studies, and Biomedical Sciences:

  1. Select, manage, and evaluate information resources that support the curricular and research needs of the faculty and students of assigned departments.
  2. Develop strong collaborative relationships with faculty and serve as a resource for research and teaching, including support for systematic reviews.
  3. Collaborate with faculty to integrate information literacy, including evidence based practice, into the curriculum.
  4. Maintain regular communication with the departments about library-related news and developments of interest to the faculty and students.
  5. Keep abreast of trends and developments in information resources and scholarly communication.
  6. Assist faculty with federal funding agencies’ policies requiring open access to publications and digital research data.

Provide reference service at the library’s Information Desk, including occasional evenings and weekends.
Contribute to the profession through such avenues as local, state, and national professional organizations, presentations, and publications.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • MLS from an ALA accredited institution.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide instruction.
  • Understanding of evidence based practice.
  • Familiarity with publication trends and scholarly publishing issues, including open access to publications and research data.
  • Experience with disciplinary electronic databases such as MEDLINE/PubMed and CINAHL.
  • Strong commitment to patron service and support.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability and willingness to work with colleagues in collaborative and team environments as well as independently.
  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity and an ability to work with a diverse student body, faculty, and staff.
  • Commitment to professional development.


Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • College course work or experience in the health or life sciences field.
  • Two years of related experience.
  • Experience teaching evidence based practice.
  • Experience conducting systematic review searches.
  • Knowledge of data sources in the health sciences.
  • Experience with assessment tools and techniques.
  • Demonstrated liaison experience in an academic library setting.
  • Collection management experience.


Appointment at Assistant or Associate Librarian rank. Librarians at Marquette University hold non-tenured faculty appointments. A strong record of job performance, professional growth, and service is required for reappointment and promotion in rank.
