HOW WE USE YOUR GIFT

Currently a junior majoring in economics, Kristin feels that Marquette’s College of Business Administration is providing an education that will give her the skills and confidence to succeed in the world of business. Her interest in business grew out of a macroeconomics course in high school, where she learned that her skills in mathematics could be applied to real-world issues.

“At Marquette, I have had the chance to take a large variety of business courses that will make me a better-rounded businessperson. The teachers really want us to succeed beyond the classroom and are constantly looking for ways to tie class material to the real world.”

Kristin’s experiences have extended beyond the Marquette campus and included the opportunity to study abroad in Rome over the summer.

“This was my first time in Europe, and it was a very good experience to see how people live day to day in another culture. Seeing that not everyone does things in the same way made me think about things differently. I think it will help me in business because, with today’s global economy, we are influenced by and must interact with people from all over the world.”

Like the majority of Marquette students, Kristin finds time to help others through service work. In addition to academic experience, Kristin has gained empathy for others through her participation in service trips to Canton, Mississippi and Enid, Oklahoma where she got to know families from different walks of life.

“It made me feel like I was doing something concrete that was making a difference in someone’s life.” While in Milwaukee, Kristin has tutored grade school children in math and reading. As a role model, she feels it is important to show children “that learning can be fun and is important.”

“My scholarships have made all of this possible; without them I would not have come to Marquette. I have grown a lot in my time here at Marquette so far, and I don’t think any other school could have given me the same well-rounded experience. I feel very privileged and will always carry the giving spirit that Marquette has shown me as I enter the business world.”

In order to actually support the students who qualify for enrollment at Marquette, the university would have to grow financial aid funding by another $10 million annually.
