After-Hours Service Calls

From 4:30 p.m. to 7:30 a.m., call (414) 288-6800 

Urgent or emergency phone calls will be received by the Marquette University Police Department. The Marquette University Police Department will assist with urgent or emergency service calls that cannot wait until the next normal working day by contacting the appropriate Facilities Planning and Management staff member.

Air Conditioning and Heating

Temperature control throughout the university is operated and maintained by the Mechanical Maintenance division of Facilities Management. Building occupants should not attempt any repairs to malfunctioning equipment. Improper operation of heating and air conditioning systems, or other service requirements should be directed to Facilities Planning and Management at (414) 288-7043.

Ceiling Tiles

Facilities Planning and Management’s General Maintenance division will replace ceiling tiles with the submission of a work request.

Campus Grounds

The exterior grounds of the university is maintained by the Grounds division of Facilities Planning and Management.  The curbside appeal such as lawn mowing, trimming of shrubs and trees, irrigation system maintenance, litter control, and planting and maintenance of water flow and plant beds are seasonal responsibilities performed by the division. Custodial Services

Campus buildings are cleaned on a routine basis. Any problems or questions involving cleaning should be communicated during normal business hours, 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. 

Custodians are not permitted to perform personal or unauthorized services. This includes unlocking doors for individuals. Marquette University Police Department (414) 288-6800 should be contacted for entry into locked areas.

Cleaning Program

Facilities Planning and Management utilizes an alternative cleaning program and wants to provide the most cost effective, efficient service as possible to the campus, while maintaining high standards of cleanliness and sanitation. The implementation of this program will help to achieve these goals. 

The basic structure of the program is as follows:

  • Classrooms and instructional areas: Mopping and vacuuming is typically provided on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, all other services will remain daily depending on the usage or as needed during inclement conditions. 
  • Private Offices: Individuals should empty their desk/office wastebaskets into common space receptacles as needed.
  • Corridors and stairwells: Mopping and vacuuming is typically provided two or three times per week depending on usage or as needed during inclement conditions.
  • High traffic public offices: These areas will have daily cleaning services to include mopping and vacuuming. Common space waste receptacles will be emptied daily. 
  • Restrooms: These areas receive daily cleaning service.

Should the need arise to "fill in" service on days not scheduled, staff will be available to cover "emergencies." As always, work requests should be directed to the work request line at (414) 288-7043. Doors and Windows

The General Maintenance division of Facilities Planning and Management responds to issues with doors and windows; including locks, closers, hinges, and stops. Additional services include but are not limited to broken windows and automated building entry systems. A work request should be submitted for such requests.

Elevator Problems

Elevator problems, malfunctioning elevators, and elevator break downs should be reported to Facilities Planning and Management at (414) 288-7043 between the hours of 7:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. For problems occurring outside these hours, please call the Marquette University Police Department at (414) 288-6800.

Emergencies

Good judgment is an important factor when determining whether or not a situation should be considered an emergency. Any disaster, unusual occurrence, utility malfunction, or equipment failure that presents imminent danger to life or property is an emergency and should be reported immediately to Facilities Planning and Management during working hours of 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday at (414) 288-7043.

After normal working hours, report emergency conditions to the Marquette University Police Department at (414) 288-6800.

Facilities Management's response to emergencies will normally be immediate, depending on the time of day and availability of personnel. If the time of occurrence is other than normal working hours, the on-call staff member will mediate the emergency condition and determine what immediate action or repairs need to be taken.

Equipment

The Mechanical Maintenance division of Facilities Planning and Management maintains equipment across campus. This division assists with insulating pipes and repairing insulation. Mechanics also repair and maintain compressors, pumps and meters. Kitchen equipment and food service refrigeration are also examples of services that should be directed to Facilities Planning and Management. A work request should be submitted for such requests.

Fire Extinguishers

Fire extinguishers in university buildings are provided and inspected monthly and semi-annually by Facilities Planning and Management General Maintenance division and under outside vendor contracts. Missing fire extinguishers should be reported to Facilities Planning and Management at (414) 288-7043.

Floor Maintenance

Several divisions within Facilities Planning and Management help maintain flooring throughout campus. These services include but are not limited to flooring refinishing, carpet shampooing or flooring repairs. A work request should be submitted for such requests.

Furniture Maintenance

Maintenance for basic classroom furniture and fixtures and Residence Life furniture is provided by Facilities Planning and Management. Broken classroom furniture may be reported to Facilities Planning and Management at (414) 288-7043 during normal working hours, 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Maintenance for specialized departmental instructional equipment items, office furnishings, and other furniture is a departmental responsibility. Facilities Planning and Management's Project Managers are able to implement repair/renovation services for such items. A work request should be submitted for such requests.

Wall Hanging or Removal

Facilities Planning and Management will assist in wall hanging or removal of chalkboards, whiteboards, shelves, etc. A work request should be submitted for such requests.

Lights and Light Fixtures

Preventative Maintenance and Mechanical Maintenance divisions assist in maintaining lighting across campus. Burnt-out lighting, both interior and exterior should be reported to Facilities Planning and Management.  A work request should be submitted for such requests.

Lock, Key and Access Policy

The Marquette University Police Department (414) 288-6800 maintains campus door locks, keys and access as part of the building security.

Mail Services

The sorting, delivery, and collection of mail across campus is taken care of by the mail division of Facilities Planning and Management. The mail will be delivered and collected on a specified day. If your department finds it necessary to collect mail more frequently, your mail will be available for pick up at the Service Building, Room 156 (Mail Services) Monday through Friday 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Moving Services

Moving of university property within the grounds or to other university-owned properties is provided through the Trucking service unit of Facilities Planning and Management. A work request should be submitted at least 72 hours prior to the intended move date. Please contact Facilities Planning and Management at (414) 288-7043 for questions regarding moving services. 

Nameplates and Signs

Nameplates and signs for interior identification of offices, laboratories, desks, and other areas in buildings are provided by the Sign Shop service unit of Facilities Planning and Management. A work request should be submitted for this service.

Paint or Patch Facilities

As-needed painting services are provided by the General Maintenance Division of Facilities Planning and Management. Services include but are not limited to painting of building interiors and exteriors (at the discretion of the General Maintenance Service Manager), removal of graffiti, and repair of moldings and cove base. Request for services beyond the scope of those routinely provided will, upon request, be arranged by Facilities Planning and Management and funded by the requested department. A work request should be submitted for such requests.

Parking Services

Parking Services oversees all campus parking including but not limited to parking structures, surface lots, loading zones, and restricted areas. For parking questions, please visit the parking website.

Pest Control

Facilities Planning and Management routinely provides, by contract, pest control services for buildings and campus owned property. If pests are noticed in buildings or on campus owned property, departments may call (414) 288-7043, and the contracted exterminator will apply necessary deterrents as needed. Outdoor animal issues should be reported to Animal Control

Plumbing

The Mechanical Maintenance division supports the university plumbing systems. Residence Life mechanics or plumbers tend to the repair of leaky faucets, plugged sinks, toilets and drains. A work request should be submitted for such requests.

Preventative Maintenance

Facilities Planning and Management personnel follow a regular schedule of routine preventive maintenance checks on doors, windows, roofs, hardware, refrigeration, air conditioning, plumbing, ventilation, electrical systems and other equipment proprietary to campus buildings. Problems in these areas that are discovered by members of the university community may be reported to Facilities Planning and Management at (414) 288-7043.

Refuse Collection and Disposal Services

Trash and refuse generated by the university is picked up on a regular schedule by an outside contractor. Trash from buildings is taken by Facilities Planning and Management workers to outside trash dumpsters for pick up by the contractor. The university is billed for each pick up as well as by tonnage. Departments are encouraged to make a concerted effort at recycling in order to assist in reducing the ever-increasing trash removal bill at the university. Special refuse pickups can be arranged by submitting a work request or by contacting Facilities Planning and Management at (414) 288-7043.

Snow and Ice Control

Snow and ice control for university roads, sidewalks, grounds, building entries and parking areas is provided by Facilities Planning and Management's Grounds service unit. Questions or concerns may be addressed to Facilities Planning and Management at (414) 288-7043.

All members of the university community are responsible for removing their vehicles from off the public roads around the university during snow emergencies. The schedule for Milwaukee snow plowing may be found at the Milwaukee Snow Operations webpage.

Special Events

Facilities Planning and Management’s Trucking division assists with the delivery and pick up of chairs, 4'x8' rectangle tables, and trash cans for university related events. A work request should be submitted for such requests.

Water, Spill, Leak and Biohazard Clean up

Facilities Planning and Management will respond to the investigation and cleanup of emergencies such as pipe breaks, rain water damage requiring water pickup, and bloodborne pathogens. Problems discovered during business hours may be reported to Facilities Planning and Management at (414) 288-7043. After normal working hours, 4:30 p.m. to 7:30 a.m., report emergency conditions to the Marquette University Police Department at (414) 288-6800.

Window Cleaning

Glass building entrance doors are cleaned on a scheduled basis determined by Facilities Planning and Management. Additional window cleaning services are provided by outside contractors at the requesting department's expense. Please call Facilities Planning and Management at (414) 288-7043 to schedule service.
