2009 College of Engineering Honors Convocation
The College of Engineering celebrated excellence at the annual Honors Convocation on Friday, April 24, 2009 in the Weasler Auditorium on the Marquette campus. The Convocation honors students for academic excellence and service outreach, faculty for outstanding teaching and research and six College of Engineering alumni for their achievements. Alumni award recipients are chosen by the Engineering Alumni Association.

Dr. Philip Voglewede, assistant professor of mechanical engineering, was selected to receive the 2009 Outstanding Teacher Award for the College of Engineering. Dr Voglewede was chosen for the passion he brings to the classroom which in turn motivates his students to learn. He joined the College of Engineering faculty in January 2008.
Recipients of the award are selected for excellence in teaching by a faculty member. The ballots were distributed to this year’s senior-standing students in selected senior classes.
Dr. Daniel Zitomer, associate professor of civil and environmental engineering received the 2009 Outstanding Researcher Award for the College of Engineering. Dr Zitomer was chosen for his work in anaerobic biotechnology, addressing novel ways of applying and optimizing anaerobic processes. He has established himself as one of the leading experts in anaerobic biotechnology. Recipients of this award are recognized for excellence in research by a faculty member during the last five years. This award is based on selection criteria that include; significant publications, funded research, graduate student productivity, and “state of the art” technology.
