Discovery Learning Center: Blending Talent and Opportunity

Through the generosity of the Kern Family Foundation, the College of Engineering received a grant to create a new platform for discovery learning in engineering education.

The Discovery Learning Center (DLC) will support student-generated projects to develop prototypes or "proof of concepts." A DLC laboratory will provide space, equipment, and modest funding to explore basic engineering principles and practices.

To receive DLC support, students must first undergo laboratory safety training and then secure faculty endorsement for their written proposal.

Guidelines for written proposals are available at the"student contract" link. All project hardware for funded projects becomes the property of the DLC at the end of the project.

The DLC affords students a unique opportunity to discover engineering by conducting their own projects. Once a project is completed, students will write a report and make an annual presentation.
