Congratulations to Dr. Joan Whipp, Associate Professor and Director of Teacher Education in the College of Education, who received a Spencer Research Grant of $49,924 to co-direct a project on long-term retention of teachers of color. Dr. Whipp will be working with Dr. Felicia Saffold, Associate Professor and Director of Elementary Education at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee on the project: "Long-Term Retention of Teachers of Color in one Urban School District: Focusing on Community Cultural Wealth."
The grant will fund Dr. Whipp and Dr. Saffold's project from May 2016-August 2017, during which they will interview teachers of color who have had an unusually high retention rate as urban teachers. They plan to study the factors that have supported the long-term retention of these teachers.
