Understanding How to Write Your Degree

""

The correct way to communicate your degree to employers and others is by using the following formats:

Degree: This is the degree you are receiving.  Your major is in addition to the degree.  I t can be added to the phrase or written separately.

  • Bachelor of Arts Degree             Major: Sociology
  • Bachelor of Science Degree        Major: Mathematics
  • Bachelor of Arts Degree in History
  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Biochemistry
  • Master of Science Degree
  • Master of Arts Degree
  • Master of Education Degree
  • Master of Business Administration

In a letter, you may shorten your degree by writing it this way:

  • In May 2005 I will graduate with my bachelor’s degree in International Affairs.
  • In December 2005 I will graduate with my master’s degree in counseling education.

Double Majors: You are not receiving two bachelor’s degrees.  If one major is a Bachelor of Arts and the second major is a Bachelor of Science, use the first on, Bachelor of Arts Degree in…

  • Bachelor of Science Degree              Majors: Mathematics and Information Technology
  • Bachelor of Arts Degree in French and English
