I'd like to take a personality or interest assessment to help me focus on a career. Where can I go to have this done?

For alumni:

  • Career Decision Making
$50.00 fee to all alumni more than one year out
Includes any or all of the following in conjunction with a career counseling appointment. Individual appointments are limited to three one-hour sessions.

For current students:
Sometimes a self-assessment exercise is helpful in determining your strengths and goals. While the Career Services Center can also help you incorporate the results of self-assessments into your career planning, some services are offered through the Counseling Center:

  • SIGI-Plus
SIGI PLUS provides information to help people make important career and educational decisions. Using research-based assessments of career-relevant interests, abilities, and job values, SIGI PLUS helps individuals consider career options that are a good match.

  • Strong Interest Inventory
This pencil and paper assessment compares students' interests to the interests of people in certain occupations. For example, you can see how similar your interests are to those of a doctor.

    • Available: Counseling Center (for freshmen and sophomores) and Career Services Center (for juniors and seniors).

    • Time allotment: 30 minutes to 1 hour to complete plus 1-hour interpretation appointment. Please call ahead to schedule.

  • Myers-Briggs Type Indicator
This pencil and paper instrument is based on four basic aspects of human personality: how we interact with the world and where we direct our energy; the kind of information we naturally notice and remember; how we make decisions; and whether we prefer to live in a more structured way (making decisions) or in a more spontaneous way (taking in information).

    • Available: Counseling Center (for freshmen and sophomores) and Career Services Center (for juniors and seniors).

    • Time allotment: 30 minutes to 1 hour to complete plus 1-hour interpretation appointment. Please call ahead to schedule.

  • Career Planning Workbook
The Career Planning Workbook is designed to help you choose a career path in an educated and deliberate manner. These exercises assist in determining which career fields you may be best suited for based on your interests, skills, and values. You will be able to research and learn about the skills and knowledge required by different career fields and determine how to gain those skills and knowledge.

    • Available: Career Services Center with the assistance of a career counselor

    • Time allotment: Ongoing with the assistance of a career counselor
