Career Services for Every Major

Career Services is here to give ALL students the tools they need to conduct a successful job search!

  • Ask your professors for advice and networking contacts.  Our faculty are very connected and often bring years of industry experience to the classroom.
  • Consider utilizing our reciprocity arrangement with other career centers at Jesuit institutions.  These career centers might know of opportunities in their region that Marquette University professionals would not be aware of.
  • View the alumni profiles in MU Connect, our alumni on-line community.  Many alumni have volunteered to help current students with their job search.  You may login to MU Connect and search for alumni who work in your field/region of interest and whose ability to network may assist you.  To login to MU Connect, please see https://www.mu.edu/gateway/.
  • Also through the https://www.mu.edu/gateway/, consider utilizing Golden Eagle Search, a job search WebCrawler.  It is a new and powerful tool for our students.
  • Consider making an appointment with one of our career counselors by calling our office at 288-7423, or by stopping by.  Our counselors can help you focus your job search, give you networking tips, etc.

Dear Dot,

I am graduating in May of this year and all of a sudden it seems like all of my friends are landing interviews and are on their way to getting jobs.  Do I really have to start my job search now?

Tips for Students

Select a manageable number of alumni volunteers to contact. Following up with more than three might prove time consuming. You can always visit this site again to select more alumni volunteers later.

Be sure to include your full name, major, year and any other information relevant to your request. You may choose to include your phone number if a conversation would be appropriate and amenable to you both.

Do not feel that you are imposing, as these alumni volunteers have given their permission for students and alumni to contact them.

Be patient after your initial contact with an alumni volunteer. It may take someone a couple of days to follow up with you.

Begin your e-mail with a little bit about you and your background. Then move into questions that you may have.

Remember to keep your contact communication on a professional level. Use complete sentences and proper grammar.

Monitor the time and the amounts of contact you have with alumni as they have careers, families, projects and their own deadlines and responsibilities.

Show appreciation whenever you can. A thank you letter is always appropriate when someone has provided assistance.

Sign Up for On-Campus Interviews!

On-campus interviews began on February 16 (the day after the Workforce Career Fair).  Since most of the on-campus interviews involve submitting a resume three weeks in advance of an employer visit, the time to sign up for interviews is now!

All interviews are arranged through MU CareerTRAK.  We strongly encourage all job seekers to register with MU CareerTRAK.  The process is easy and begins by submitting a resume to career.services@marquette.edu.  One of our counselors will respond with detailed instructions.  Campus interview schedules are also available through the Marquette Calendar of Events.  You may also visit our office in person for personal assistance with MU CareerTRAK and signing up for on-campus interviews.
