New Feature on MU CAREER MANAGER!
After you do a search, you can create a new job agent, which is now separate from the saved search feature. The job agent will email you once a job is posted that meets your criteria.
Job Agents - There have been a number of changes to the job agents to make them both more interactive, more intuitive and more accessible:
a. The function for creating a job agent as a student has now been separated out from Save Search to its own function called Create Job Agent on the job search screen. This should make this function more accessible and visible to students.
b. Accessing previously created job agents has been separated out from Saved Searches to its own tab in student activity. This provides an easier place to see existing job agents and allow for providing more intuitive functionality for managing them. It also allows them to be accessible to administrators in the student's activity section.
c. A Disable/Enable function was added to job agents to allow a student to disable a job agent so they would no longer receive the email for it without removing the job agent completely. This way they could easily re-enable it at a later date if it became applicable to them again.
d. The content of the job agent email was changed. It previously included basic data about the new/update jobs matching the agent and just a link to login to the site. This was difficult for students though because to actually interact with any of those job they then had to login and individually search for those jobs or run the saved search. Now, the email contains the number of new/updated jobs for each agent and a link which the student can click on that will take them to the site, let them login and immediately take them to the job results matching that agent, which should make it much easier for students to interact with jobs they have been notified about through an agent. The email also contains a link where a student can disable a job agent directly from the email if they no longer wish to receive it. Lastly, this change from presenting actual job data in the email to a count and a more interactive link should prevent situations in which a student looks at an agent email but by the time they go into the system to look at the jobs the job has perhaps already expired or changed screening criteria and they are confused as to why they can no longer see that job.

It is important to project a professional image throughout your job search. One way to achieve this is to dress the part. During an interview, an employer may assume that this is the best you will ever look. Unfortunately, making your way into the world-of-work means that you may be judged on the way you look and how you present yourself. This may not always be fair, but there are a number of things you can do to feel confident about yourself in an interviewing situation. As you know, you only get one chance to make a first impression. Remember, dress for the job you want, not the job you have. You’re trying to sell yourself!
MUSTS
• ALWAYS wear a suit to an interview, even if the people who work at the organization are not wearing suits and the job for which you are interviewing doesn’t require it. Remember, the people there already have the job…you don’t!
HYGIENE
• Always have fresh breath and clean body hygiene. This may seem obvious but take a shower, use deodorant, and brush your teeth.
• Wear perfume, cologne, or aftershave that is subtle, some people may be allergic. Your scent should leave the room when you do.
• Cover visible tattoos with makeup.
• Have clean, short nails without ragged edges. Women, have unpolished nails or use clear polish or a neutral tone.
• Take out any piercings (nose, eyebrows, tongue, etc). They can be put back in when you are not interviewing or at work.
WOMEN’S ATTIRE
• A conservative pants or skirt suit (navy, gray, black).
• Clothing that fits your body correctly—clothing is too tight when it is pulling horizontally across your body or has gaping buttons; clothing is too big when tops are falling off the shoulders or pins are used to hold waist bands.
• A slip, if your skirt is unlined. It should be light or dark according to the color of the skirt and length should extend to hemline.
• Minimal accessories (necklaces, earrings, and bracelets) in keeping with the fashion trends of the season. Wear only one ring per hand.
• Clothing that is appropriate for the current season.
• Neat, pressed, clean clothing without tears, rips, hanging threads or pills. All buttons, snaps, or hooks should be on the garment and hems sewn in place.
• Polished shoes with matching belt (if appropriate).
• Sleeve length for suit would fall between your wrists and the top knuckle of your thumb.
MEN’S ATTIRE
• A conservative suit (navy, black, gray).
• Sleeve length for suit should fall between your wrists and the top knuckle of your thumb.
• A matching tie that extends below the belt line.
• An ironed long-sleeve cotton shirt.
• A white undershirt beneath your dress shirt.
• Clothing that is appropriate for the current season.
• Neat, pressed, clean clothing without tears, rips, hanging threads, or pills. All buttons, snaps, or hooks should be on the garment and hems sewn in place.
• Polished shoes with matching belt.

www.bigshoesnetwork.com
Founded in 2006, Big Shoes Network, Inc., is the outgrowth of a little idea and a big desire of Jeff & Martha Carrigan to help others. More specifically, they know first-hand how frustrating it can be to land that first job. They know the fear and uncertainty of leaving an employer when you have nothing lined up. They know the sheer work involved with keeping your spirits up and continuing to send out cover letters and resumes as you search for that next opportunity. In the end, they’ve been there.
That’s why they started Big Shoes Network. They wanted something a little different. Something far more targeted and relevant. In the employment marketplace, their niche is presenting internships and job opportunities in advertising, communications, graphic design, marketing, marketing research, public relations, and web design and development. Nearly all of these job openings will be in Wisconsin, Illinois and Minnesota. As a result of this focus, hundreds of employers and thousands of marketing communications-oriented professionals use the Big Shoes Network to get connected to one another.
