Taylor Baar

Taylor Baar

Taylor Baar is a senior, studying International Affairs with a minor in Spanish. When asked why he wanted to be a part of this program, he said, “What drew me to the Manresa Scholar Program is the opportunity to discuss and engage in questions which are challenging. I thought that learning more about the relationship between faith and service and discussing the challenging questions through the lens of Ignatian spirituality would be a great way to end my time at Marquette.” Taylor looks forward to building relationships with the other Scholars and the people at St. Michael’s Church. A little known fact about Taylor is that his favorite animal is the octopus.

When asked about why he wanted to become a Manresa Scholar, Oliver responded, “I wanted…to have the opportunity to grow in my faith through discernment on a much more consistent basis, and in a communal setting.” He is looking forward to learning more about his faith through the lens of Ignatian Spirituality, what it means to be a community member, and how to integrate discernment into his life. He is serving at Redeemer Lutheran Church this year. Last but not least, Oliver’s favorite cereal happens to be Cheerios.
Elyse O'Callaghan

Elyse O'Callaghan

Elyse O’Callaghan is a senior in the Civil Engineering program. She is also working on a minor in Theology. She is serving at Casa Romero Renewal Center and when asked about being a part of the program, she says, “What most intrigued me about the Manresa Program was the consistent commitment to a service site. I've done service throughout my time at Marquette and I've held internships, however I've never had the opportunity to truly immerse myself in the community of a service site the way I will be able to through the MSP.” Additionally, Elyse is glad for the opportunity to explore and actively discern her vocation in conjunction with the other Scholars. She also has a fondness for Ben & Jerry's Whirled Peace ice cream.
Colleen Ross

Colleen Ross

Colleen Ross is in her senior year, working on a major in International Affairs and a minor in Economics. When asked about what drew her to this program, she said, “I wanted to become a Manresa Scholar so I could become more integrated into Milwaukee and spend time with a community here in our city.” Colleen is looking forward to getting to know the members of the St Paul’s Lutheran Church community and spending time with them. She is also a fan of Kermit the Frog from the Muppets.

Emily Swanson

Emily Swanson

Emily Swanson is a senior studying Sociology and Health Studies. “One of the main reasons I wanted to become a Manresa Scholar was to become part of a community outside of Marquette,” she says. “The emphasis on Ignatian spirituality and discernment also appealed to me…The Manresa Scholar Program provides the opportunity for personal growth while also building a new sense of community.” When asked about her work with the youth of St. Francis parish, she says that she is excited and blessed to have the opportunity to be a part of it. “I am so excited to walk with these kids on their faith journey, as they walk with me on mine. I feel that we will be able to learn from each other to grow stronger in faith, together.” In addition, Emily’s favorite travel destination is Disney World.
