Marquette University, B.S. 2001

Matt LangewischWalking through the door of Little Sprouts Dental, you are greeted with bright colorful murals of animals on the walls, loads of kid-focused technology, children’s music playing in the background, and a smiling staff welcoming you throughout the visit.  And in the corner is a grey 30-year-old turtle named Michaelangelo swimming excitedly in his tank.

Little Sprouts Dental, located in the heart of downtown Cedarburg, is owned and operated by Marquette alumnus Dr. Matthew Langewisch.  Dr. Matt (as his little patients call him) was a Pre-Dental Scholar at Marquette and graduated with a B.S. in Biological Sciences in 2001 and a D.D.S. from the School of Dentistry in 2004.

Matt LangewischLittle Sprouts Dental was opened in 2013 with a mission to provide high quality dental care while providing access to all children, even those from underserved populations.  Dr. Matt says his experience at Marquette shaped how he developed his dental practice.  “Marquette gave me a strong sense of service and community.  Helping others in need, treating each other with respect and understanding, and celebrating our differences, has stayed with me all these years.  It was important for me to carry these lessons learned from Marquette into my career.”

“Also, when I was at Marquette, I had the fortunate chance to perform undergraduate research with Dr. Gail Waring.  It made what I learned in my classes tangible, real.  The experience also developed my abilities at critical thinking and problem solving.  For many reasons, this research opportunity was an invaluable experience.  Now, over fifteen years later, I find that skills I learned under Dr. Waring's mentorship continue to help me every day in my professional career."

In addition to owning his Little Sprouts Dental, Dr. Matt is an Attending Faculty dentist at Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin's Next Door Foundation Dental Center, is an affiliate member of the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, and a Fellow of the Academy of General Dentistry.

And as for the 30-year-old turtle, Michaelangelo…“I got Mike as a pet when I was about 10 years old.  Yes, he was named him after the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle.  We’ve been through everything together.  In a way Mike is a Marquette alumnus too because he spent seven years at Marquette!  And now I get to share him with all the kids that come through the door.  He’s a hit with the kids!”
