The Department of Foreign Languages and Literatures welcomes Mr. Diogène “Atome” Ntarindwa to campus.  He will be at Marquette until December 11, 2009.

Diogène Ntarindwa trained as an actor after studying law at the National University of Rwanda in Butare.  He received his licence from the Conservatory in Liège, Belgium.

He has worked extensively on projects related to Rwanda such as Raoul Peck’s film, Sometimes in April; Groupov’s performance piece Rwanda 94; The Investigation (Baudrillard’s adaptation of Weiss’ docu-drama drawn from the Holocaust Trials).  Recently he has been working in the DRC on Athol Fugard’s The Island.

His one-man show Carte d’identité played this summer at the Avignon Festival in France and at the Tarmac in Paris.  He will be performing this show during his stay at Marquette (date and time to be announced shortly). Diogène works on memory and identity, and on the role of the personal in the bigger historical picture.

Our thanks to those in the Marquette community who helped make this visit possible: The Klingler College of Arts and Sciences; Susan Mountin and Manresa; Stephanie Russell from the Office of University Mission and Identity; Rich Friman and the Center for Transnational Justice; Barrett McCormick and the Department of Political Science; and Ellen Blauw for her help with visa matters. Please contact Sarah Davies Cordova at sarah.cordova@mu.edu for further information.
