NIck DeMonteNick DeMonte, Comm 08, is an account executive at Momentum Worldwide, a full-service marketing agency in Chicago, for NASCAR sponsor Office Depot Racing. Previously, he was marketing and operations coordinator at Arlington Park Racecourse.

 

Kerry O'HareKerry O'Hare, Bus Ad 91, was married to Michael Shawn Leist, Esq., on July 6, 2012. They reside in Chicago where Kerry is senior vice president and controller of Oxford Capital Partners, Inc. and Oxford Capital Group, LLC. Shawn is a financial advisor associate at Morgan Stanley Smith Barney.

Beth SomersBeth Somers, Comm 01, is a culinary specialist in the test kitchen at Wilton Industries, a food-crafting company based in Woodridge, Ill. She and a friend were selected as winners on the popular Food Network show Cupcake Wars in August. They catered an event with their winning cupcake recipes and received a $10,000 prize.

Chicago area alumni send incoming Marquette freshmen off in style
Summer Send-off, EvanstonIn July, Chicago area alumni hosted three successful Summer Send-offs in Evanston, Naperville and Chicago with nearly 110 students, parents and alumni sharing the excitement. Thank you to all who attended these events to welcome these new students into the Marquette family. Special thanks to Mary, Eng ’82, and Chris Bedford, Eng ’81, in Naperville for hosting their 25th consecutive Summer Send-off. Ring out ahoya!

Marquette dental school expansion project moves forward
The Marquette University School of Dentistry expansion project is moving forward, with construction expected to begin Sept. 4 and a groundbreaking event on Sept. 18. Learn more.

Loyola Academy, Fenwick, St. Viator and New Trier among top area high school feeders for Marquette's freshman class
A few weeks ago, 273 freshmen from the Chicago area moved to campus, where they now call Marquette University home for the next four years. Top area high schools with the most incoming Marquette freshmen include Loyola Academy, Fenwick, St. Viator, New Trier and St. Ignatius Prep.

Big East schedule released for men's and women's basketball; National Marquette Day March 2 as men take on Notre Dame
Marquette men's basketball opens the Big East Conference on New Year's Day as host UConn. See the entire men's season schedule as well as the women's slate. And, mark your calendars for National Marquette Day on Saturday, March 2, when the Marquette men take on Notre Dame at the BMO Harris Bradley Center.

Poet Mary Oliver to receive honorary degree, give reading
Mary Oliver. Photo credit: Rob HowardRenowned poet Mary Oliver, winner of the National Book Award and the Pulitzer Prize, will be receiving an Honorary Degree from Marquette University on Monday, Nov. 12. The ceremony will begin at 4 p.m. in the Alumni Memorial Union’s Monaghan Ballroom.
Oliver, described by the New York Times as “far and away, this country’s best-selling poet,” will also read from her poems during the event. The event is free and open to the public but tickets are required. Learn more.
