Thirty-five alumni ranging between the classes of 1977 to 2012 representing industries such as finance, human resources and nonprofit connected to learn more from each other and explore potential business opportunities. Some attendees in job transition found that the Marquette network was abuzz with fellow alumni willing to help jumpstart their searches through their own personal and Marquette alumni connections. Marquette In the News: Professors provide expert advice in The Chicago Tribune and WBBM Newsradio
Lynn Turner, Marquette professor of communication studies, discussed how holiday times can often spark family conflicts. "One of the biggest reasons is our expectations for a family gathering are always so high, we're bound to be disappointed. These Hallmark visions of how these things are supposed to be bump up against the reality of our families." Story appeared on ChicagoTribune.com on Dec. 11.
Christopher Stockdale, Marquette associate professor of physics, also discussed the physics behind sledding and how and where to pick out the perfect sled. According to Stockdale, the things to consider is how much friction the sled will cause, the sled's shape and the conditions you are sledding under. Story appeared on ChicagoTribune.com on Dec. 12.
Andrew Hanson, associate professor of economics, discussed the mortgage tax deduction as it relates to the fiscal cliff. Interview appeared on WBBM Newsradio's "Noon Business Hour" (Chicago) on Dec. 13. (Hanson's interview begins at the 26:00 mark.)
