Mission Week 2013

Mission Week celebrates “The World is Our Home”

For approximately 10 years, Marquette has celebrated the exploration of its Catholic, Jesuit mission through Mission Week. This year’s celebration, Feb. 3-9, will honor the 10 winners of the annual, $1 million Opus Prize in faith-based social entrepreneurship. Mission Week initiatives will include each of the undergraduate colleges hosting one or more Opus Prize winners as "visiting chairs," giving students, faculty, staff and alumni an opportunity to engage with these extraordinary leaders.

Marquette to end its association with
BIG EAST Conference


MU AthleticsIn a Dec. 15 email to the Marquette community, university President Scott R. Pilarz, S.J., and Vice President and Director of Athletics Larry Williams announced the university is ending its association with the BIG EAST Conference. 

Being part of "The 12" at The Washington Post

TessaJournalism student Tessa Fox found herself tumbling through the 2012 election as one of 12 college students selected by The Washington Post to provide a young voice to their campaign coverage.

HernandezJuan Hernandez, Bus Ad '06, is working as a management consultant for Alexander Proudfoot, an international firm based in Atlanta, which specializes in the design and execution of programs to achieve changes in operational and financial performance. Through his work at Alexander Proudfoot, Juan has traveled to Canada, South Africa and Peru.

Christina Roth Christina Roth, Comm '02, is the new strategic seasonal marketing team member for Kohl’s Department Stores headquarters in Menomonee Falls, Wis. Her role includes managing the strategic development and execution for the Holiday and Back to School marketing plans.

Rick BarrettRick Barrett, Bus Ad '95, founder of Barrett Visionary Development in Milwaukee, was recently named 2012 Executive of the Year: Honorable Mention by The Business Journal. His latest development, The Moderne, a $55 million 30-story, high-rise apartment/condominium tower was completed in late 2012. The apartments are now available for rent and the condos listed with Lauren Siegel, First Weber.

National Marquette Day is March 2
Mark your calendar for Saturday, March 2, as Marquette alumni and friends gather worldwide for National Marquette Day as Marquette vs. Notre Dame. Game-watching parties are again scheduled across the globe and this year’s event takes on special meaning with the last time Marquette will host Notre Dame in BIG EAST conference play. Learn more about game-watching locations, including organizing an event in your area.

Marquette alumnus, journalist captured in Syria

Journalist James Foley, Arts '96, was captured by unidentified gunmen in Syria on Thanksgiving day, according to his family through freejamesfoley.org. As shared in the Fall 2011 issue of Marquette Magazine, Foley was captured in Libya in April 2011 and released 45 days later. The thoughts and prayers of the Marquette community are with him and his family for a safe return. Submit a prayer to be shared on Marquette's campus.

University remembers alumnus Jerome Whitehead
Marquette University mourns the loss of Jerome Whitead, Bus Ad '78, who died in December in the San Diego area. He was considered a key member of the 1977 men's basketball NCAA championship squad. A moment of silence was observed at the men's basketball game against the University of Connecticut on Jan. 1.

The Science of Sledding
Science of SleddingFor those living in colder climates, sledding with family and friends can be a fun way to embrace winter. Chris Stockdale, Marquette associate professor of physics, headed for the hills and provides a fun and educational look at the science of sledding.
