Announcing our first Alumni for Others Service Trip…

MARDI GRAS
Making a Real Difference in the Gulf Region and Areas Surrounding

March 7 - 14, 2009
New Orleans, LA

Please join us for our first Alumni For Others service and immersion trip to the Gulf Region.

Marquette alumni and their families have the opportunity to join Marquette students as they travel down to Gulf Region during Spring Break 2009 to help bring hope and help to a still desperate and hurricane-stricken area. Alumni For Others will be partnering with the student service organization, MARDI GRAS, to provide this unique opportunity.

Making A Real Difference In the Gulf Region and Areas Surrounding (MARDI GRAS) is a service organization which strives to provide aide to hurricane victims in the Gulf Region; as well as, promote awareness of the issues which plague the Gulf Region. The group was founded by Marquette students in October 2006 after Hurricane Katrina devastated New Orleans and other coastal communities. Since its inception, MARDI GRAS has visited the Gulf Region numerous times and continues to do great work in raising funds, awareness and support for this devastated area.

To get a first-hand glimpse of a MARDI GRAS trip experience, please view a slideshow of the 2007 MARDI GRAS trip.

If you are interested in participating in this trip or would like information, please contact alumni coordinator, Katie Connolly, at (414) 403-8159 or katie.n.connolly@gmail.com.

Volunteer in Appalachia

If you have some time available this summer, please consider joining WSA (Women in Service to Appalachia) for a one week service project July 11-18, 2009, in Manchester, KY. Manchester is located in eastern Kentucky, near the West Virginia border. You will live in rustic, dormitory-style housing with other adult Catholic women. We will perform home repair/building tasks and other short-term projects as needed by the community. There will be plenty of time for Mass attendance, group prayer, faith sharing, and cultural learning.

For a brochure and application, or to find out more information, contact:
Women in Service to Appalachia, Attn: Barbara Stygles, 77 Garfield Ave., Woburn, MA 01801, or e-mail admissions@womeninservice.org
