MULTIMEDIA: Economic Leadership Forum
The current financial crisis has been called the worst since the Great Depression. To shed light on these difficult economic conditions, Marquette University held an Economic Leadership Forum in January, bringing together a panel of industry leaders and faculty experts to examine the economy from a macro as well as regional perspective, discuss projections for the future, and field questions from an audience of over 400 attendees. The panel, moderated by James H. Keyes Dean of Business Administration Dr. Linda M. Salchenberger, included:

    While the Marquette University Career Services’ primary mission is to serve current students, it also provides service to alumni needing assistance in these trying economic times.   • Marquette University and Engineers Without Borders finalist for national award
    What began as an endeavor to improve the day-to-day life of a rural community in Guatemala resulted in national acknowledgment for the Milwaukee chapters of Engineers Without Borders-USA (EWB-USA) and their completed Rio Motagua Bridge project.

  • Marquette’s Applied Investment Management students earn top honors
    Five Applied Investment Management (AIM) students, Alison Bettonville, Chris Cebula, Brian Finnie, Maggie Hughes and Anna Toshach, are part of a team that recently won the CFA Institute’s Wisconsin region’s Global Investment Research Challenge. Learn more
  • Haggerty Research Award and Way Klingler recipients announced
    Professor of biological sciences Dr. Stephen Downs was awarded the university’s top research award, the Lawrence G. Haggerty Award for Research Excellence. Additionally, six faculty members received the Way Klingler Fellowship and Young Scholar Awards. The Way Klingler Faculty Development Program supports the advancement of research and scholarship at Marquette. Learn more
  • Call is out for Centennial of Women oral histories
    University Archives and Special Collections is gathering first-person accounts to document the experiences of women at Marquette since 1909 in six areas: campus life, memories of female faculty and staff, women’s athletics, Association of Marquette University Women, experiences of religious women, and women who enrolled in academic programs that historically served male students. To submit a memory, use the online forms.
    A selection of the submissions will be recorded as oral histories.
  • Jayne Grebinski named BIG EAST Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week
    For her efforts at the Georgia Relays on March 21, Marquette distance runner Jayne Grebinski was named as the first-ever women's BIG EAST Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week. Learn more
  • Marquette among seven NCAA schools with 100 percent graduation rate
    In a report released March 16, 2009, by The Institute for Diversity and Ethics in Sport at the University of Central Florida, Marquette was among seven NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament schools that achieved a graduation rate of 100 percent among players. The graduation rates were based on whether freshmen who entered school between the 1998-99 and 2001-02 academic years earned diplomas within six years.
  • CNN names Milwaukee a top five college basketball hometown
    CNN calls Milwaukee one of the top five great basketball towns to visit. Also on CNN’s list are the hometowns of Duke, Kansas, Indiana and Gonzaga. Read all about what makes Milwaukee great for fans.

  • Engineering summer academies offer a new take on summer camp
    This year the College of Engineering’s popular series of summer academies includes sessions on The Science of Toys, Shrinking, Stretching, Oozing and Bouncing — The World of Polymers, Introduction to Robotics Engineering with LEGO Mindstorms RCX and much more for students in grades K-12.

Hunger Clean-up

Celebrate 20 years of Hunger Clean-Up - Saturday, April 18, 2009
In 1989 Hunger Clean-Up began as a modest effort on behalf of proactive students to combat hunger and homelessness in Milwaukee. Twenty years later, Hunger Clean-Up has grown to be Marquette’s largest one-day service project. Having forged relationships with over 150 agencies around and in the city, Hunger Clean-Up has made as big an impact on Milwaukee as it has on Marquette students and alumni.
