Scott
A. Roberts, BUS AD '85
Scott
Roberts is the president of Deerfield Capital Management, a company
in Chicago that oversees more than $12 billion in assets. Before
that, he was chief investment officer at Liberty Hampshire and
several Zurich Insurance Company subsidiaries, including Scudder
Kemper Investments where he was responsible for over $80 billion
in assets.
In addition to his Marquette degree, Scott
holds an M.B.A. in finance and investments from the University
of Wisconsin where he currently serves on the board of the
applied security analysis program.
Yet Scott brings so much more
to his profession than a keen eye for good investments. "I
am in a people business," he says. "I get to learn
from and meet new people all the time and my work also allows
me to guide people in a career in investments." This
same attentiveness to others is evident in Scott's volunteer
activities. He serves on the boards of Catholic Charities of
Chicago and the Nativity Jesuit Middle School and also is a
member of the 1881 Society of Marquette's President's Council.
One
of the lessons Scott says he learned at Marquette was to
measure yourself by how you handle the bumps in the road of life.
By
this or any other definition, Scott would have to be judged
a great success.
