George Gialamas, Arts ’62
Where one may see only an empty plot of land, George Gialamas sees “the land of opportunity.” George is the owner and CEO of The Gialamas Company, a commercial real estate company located in Madison, Wis. He has been a driving force in the promotion of Madison, Dane County and the state of Wisconsin. His vision and philosophy have sparked development for the city of Madison to attract new people, new jobs and promote economic development, including ownership and development of Old Sauk Trails Business Park. The business park has grown to more than 58 buildings, containing more than 250 companies and occupying three million square feet. The park has more than 10,000 employees and has created a tax base of $350 million in the city of Madison.
George serves on several local, state and national boards. He has earned numerous awards and recognition, including the Congressional Ellis Island Medal of Honor for outstanding accomplishments in our nation, state and city; Key to the City of Madison and, in recognition of the millennium, inclusion on The Madison All Century List in a salute to the top 50 people who shaped Madison.
It’s easy to see George’s passion for his work. He believes in the adage “the rising tide raises all ships.”
Born and raised in Chicago, George came to Madison via International Business Machines Corp. (IBM), for whom he worked for almost 14 years in marketing and sales after earning a degree in philosophy from Marquette University. George and his wife, Candida “Candy,” have four children.
