Margaret L. Bloom, Ph.D., Vice Provost for Undergraduate Programs and TeachingMargaret Bloom, Ph.D., is one of the two vice provosts of Marquette University. Reporting to the provost, the vice provost for undergraduate programs and teaching has overall responsibility for the evaluation and development of the university undergraduate programs, and campus-wide student learning assessment and quality of instruction.

She works with the director of the university core of common studies to develop, implement and evaluate the core curriculum and works with faculty and staff in developing procedures for strengthening teaching and assessing student learning.

Bloom joined Marquette in 2004 after serving as dean of the School of Education at Loyola University Chicago. She had been a faculty member at the University of Hawaii at Manoa, the University of Florida and the University of Memphis, where she was the department chair of Counseling, Educational Psychology and Research as well as coordinator of the College of Education’s diversity professional development. Bloom joined Loyola University Chicago in 1997.

Bloom received her bachelor's of science in nursing (with distinction) from the State University of New York at Buffalo, a master's of science in psychiatric nursing from the University of California at San Francisco and a master's of educational counseling and guidance from the University of Hawaii.  She earned her Ph.D. in counseling psychology (education) from Arizona State University in Tempe.  She also holds certificates in management and leadership in education from Harvard University.

In addition to authoring more than 35 publications and serving in editorial positions for several education-related publications, Bloom has been a principal investigator and grant author for projects that have received more than $1.6 million in funding.  She is the recipient of research awards from the American Mental Health Counselors Association and the Association for Counselor Education and Supervision.

Bloom has served as a consultant for several academic institutions and professional organizations and was part of the U.S. Army Nurse Corps Ready Reserve, where she rose to the rank of major.  Bloom is an elected fellow of the American Psychological Association and the American Educational Research Association.  She is a past president of the Association for Counselor Education and Supervision and has held leadership positions in several national academic organizations. From 2001 to 2002 she served as president of the Association of Jesuit Colleges and Universities Council of Teacher Education.
