Mark your calendar for Family Weekend 2014 on October 3-5!

Family Weekend is an annual event in early October, for the whole family, designed to connect you to the Marquette community, the city of Milwaukee, and your student’s experience. Thank you to the over 600 families who celebrated Family Weekend on campus in from October 4-6, 2013! Haggerty Museum of Art Open Galleries

10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Haggerty Museum of Art
Visit the Haggerty Museum of Art in the heart of campus, featuring the exhibitions Current Tendencies III Artists from Milwaukee and Re-seeing the Permanent Collection The Viewer's Voice.
Admission is free.

 

Family Bowling

Session 1
1:30 p.m. to 3 p.m.

3:30 p.m. to 5 p.m.

Union Sports Annex
Includes shoe rental, snacks, beverages and 90 minutes of bowling. Siblings must be accompanied by an adult. Socks and reservations are mandatory for this popular activity! Space is limited, so register early. Open bowling also will be available during the weekend. Please contact the Annex at (414) 288-7769 for more information. $5 per person, per session.

Tours

Dessert Tour of the Historic Third Ward

1:15 p.m. to 4 p.m.
A delicious and educational 2.5 hour walking dessert tour of Milwaukee's Historic Third Ward guided by Milwaukee Food Tours.  Join us and discover true ethnic treasures in this lively neighborhood! The Third Ward is home to numerous art galleries, boutiques, restaurants, the Broadway Theatre Center, and the Milwaukee Public Market. You'll also learn about the history and architecture of the Third Ward while sampling desserts from 5 eateries and your local guide will point out hidden entertainment spots and restaurants along the way. $44 per person, includes bus transportation to and from campus, desserts, and gratuities.

Miles for Meals 5K Fun Run/Walk

4:30 p.m.
Westowne Mall
Lace up your running or walking shoes and participate in a fun event for a good cause!  "Miles for Meals" is a fun run that serves as the primary fundraiser for the Midnight Run Program, a student initiative which has served the needs of the hungry and homeless near Marquette since 1988.  The course follows the perimeter of campus known as the Marquette Mile. $15 minimum donation per person


Friday Dinner and a Show: featuring the Marquette Orchestra and Studio 013 Refugees

Don't miss this Family Weekend showcase event including great food and entertainment!  Following a family-style buffet of fall comfort foods for the whole family, a selection of pop music by the talented Marquette Orchestra opens the evening.  The first annual Father Marquette Drawing includes dozens of amazing Marquette and Milwaukee prizes for you and your family.  Then, get ready for some laughs as Studio 013 Refugees - Marquette's only comedy improv troupe on campus - takes the stage.  They have each been described by their moms as "Very funny, no go do the dishes." $20 per person, (children 5 and under are free).

Come with us on this musical journey to the French Riviera where a master conman and young apprentice engage in a contest to see who can have it all: the fame, the money, and the girl.  Based on the 1988 film and nominated for 10 Tony Awards in 2005, this hilarious romp with an unexpected twist has been called "Broadway musical comedy heaven."  "...a little something for everyone." New York Theater Review.  Appropriate for ages 13 and up. $20 per person; $10 student (Student I.D. must be shown upon admittance); $10 child (ages 4 17).

Stop by to meet current and future members of the Official Marquette University Parents Group on Facebook. This group is open to all parents and guardians of current MU students, and
provides a forum for discussions for and by parents.

 

Golf Scramble

9 a.m. - 2 p.m.
Bus leaves from the east side of the AMU
All experience levels welcome!  Enjoy a 4-person golf scramble with other MU families at Brookfield Hills, an executive course just west of Milwaukee. Register alone or with a group of up to four. Includes transportation, 9 holes of golf and a casual lunch. Carts available for an additional fee. $25 per person.

Zumba Fitness Class

9 a.m.
Helfaer Recreation Center

Check out one of the most popular fitness activities at Marquette!  Zumba combines aerobics and a variety of Latin dances and is a great way to start your morning. Complimentary lockers and use of showers is available for all participants.

Pumpkin and Apple Picking

9:30 a.m. - noon
Bus leaves from east side of AMU

Pick your own apples and pumpkins at this local family-owned and operated fruit farm in Mequon, WI. Visit the Barthel Family Farm website for prices and apple varieties that will be available.

Flu Clinic

11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Alumni Memorial Union, room 254
Influenza vaccinations (injectable) will be available to students and their family members. Flu shots, administered by MU Medical Clinic, will cost $20 and can be paid for with cash, check, credit card, or MU cash.  All flu shot recipients will be entered into a raffle for local prizes.

Office of International Education Open House

Visit the Office of International Education and learn about study abroad opportunities, international programming and other cross-cultural exchange opportunities. Meet staff, study abroad alumni and current international students.

Stop by the picturesque chapel in the heart of campus to pose for a keepsake photo with your family. Digital copies will be sent to families via email by the end of October. This is perfect timing for your holiday photos!

Shopping Bus Tour of Milwaukee's Historic (and now trendy) Neighborhoods

Learn more about Milwaukee on an exciting bus tour that explores neighborhoods originally settled by Italian, Irish, Polish, and German immigrants.  We'll travel by bus and you'll have time to shop at Milwaukee hot spots in the Historic Third Ward, Brady Street and Old World Third Street. Includes stops at the Milwaukee Public Market, Glorioso Brothers - Italian Foods, The Spice House, Wisconsin Cheese Mart and Sciortino's Bakery. If desired, you'll be able to purchase lunch along the way. $16 per person
